salam...have you ever tasted baklava??? the super yummy mediterranean pastry.. oh my, if u havent.. try it la.. my taste buds macam nak kecut je waiting for the moment when i can taste it again..it??? no no no..THEM!! yosh!! so, a short history about baklava..
BAKLAVA.. (suka hati korang la nak pronounce macam mane) is a delightful pastry made of layers of filo or phyllo pastry (macam layered puffs la since fillo pastry ni macam helaian pastry manis)and the layers is filled with nuts or dried fruits and glaze with honey or syrup.. soft but cruchy a bit on the outside.. due to the layering..my favourite one is not as thick as shown in the picture la... nipis sket and cut into small squares.. yg dala gambar tu dah nampak macam kek...
it is believed to have been first made in the royal kitchen of Topkapi Palace during the era of Uthmaniyah empire... haa.. Topkapi Palace tu pekebenda pulak kan?? well, it's a palace but now it is turned into a museuem which keeps a lot of important islamic artifacts and treasures of the Uthmaniyah empire..like the sword of Sayidina Umar.. the tooth of the Prophet where he lost it during one of the wars.. and so on la... and Topkapi Palace was the place where the khalifah of Uthmaniyah empire called home.. heee.. so if the baklava was first made them, we can consider it as the royal pastry la kan???
baklava ni... ada yang sedap tu...very nice!!! but somehow because it is hard to make and bring to perfecton, it can turn out seriously wrong and bad... some of you, food lovers who watched junior master chef australia might have noticed one of the young contestant made baklava... susah tu!!! in malaysia, quite hard la since the ingredients tu takde kat kedai runcit berdekatan anda.. hahaha... so since i'm in KL now, my mission of hunting down the greatest baklava begins... yummy!!! ek.. what about my plan to loose weight??? alaaa... makan baklava je... bukan makan beriyani dua talam...heee.. and for my friends who study abroad.. aussie ke, egypt ke, jordan ke, czech ke...i'm sure you'll come across a Turkish or Pakistani or any Middle East pastry shop or bakery shop...try the baklava.. for those yg duk malaysia.. my sources tell me that good baklava is available in KL and Selangor...
